16. Eco Tan

Location: Gold Coast, Australia

Founder, Sonya Driver, started Eco By Sonya Driver for personal reasons. Almost a decade ago, her gentle-spirited sister was diagnosed with a melanoma. She had a cancerous growth cut from her arm, leaving a horrible scar. Growing up in the Australian sun, Sonya still wanted to get a tan without the risk of harmful UV rays, so she thought the next best thing was fake tanning. Sonya and her sister started getting spray tans together, but Sonya became concerned about the ingredients in the different brands we were using, regardless of their claims. It only took her a few minutes to decide not to use their products anymore.
Our skin is our largest organ and much of what we put on it is absorbed into our blood stream. So, Sonya took matters into her own hands. She started buying samples of cacao, flower essence, grape seed extract, chamomile and all things natural and organic and started mixing batches out of her tiny kitchen in Queensland, Australia. The first batch, or fifty batches, weren’t perfect. She found that working with organic ingredients was a lot more challenging than working with synthetic ingredients! But Sonya was determined to create a natural tanning option that was good for our skin and good for the planet. And she finally did it…
In 2011, Eco Tan made Australian history by becoming the first and only tanning manufacturer to be certified organic by the Organic Food Chain under the Australian government. After the initial tanning product, Eco Tan created a tanning range. Which then expanded to body care, sun care, organic skin care and makeup.  After Sonya had a large basal cell carcinoma removed from her face in 2017, she needed a product that would give her the best shot at healing the scar that was left on her face. So, Sonya created certified organic Glory Oil, one of the heroes in Eco By Sonya Driver’s skincare range, packed with phenomenal botanical actives to reduce the appearance of scars and fine lines. Inca Inchi is a secret antioxidant rich weapon in the formula, known for its ability to heal skin and reduce the signs of ageing. The superpowers of Mother Nature are incredible, and she never tires of hearing from Eco Tan’s amazing customers of the results that Glory Oil has brought to them.
Since Day 1, Eco Tan have been committed to creating a healthier, animal friendly and environmentally friendly eco range.
