Taking inspiration from the rainforest: Why Gachala Skincare’s Amazonian Goddess Serum is a Clean Beauty Award finalist

CEO and founder of Gachala Skincare, Karen Forero is a scientist and passionate advocate for the environment. Her proudly women-owned Canadian skincare brand is backed by the expertise of environmental and cosmetic scientists who share her respect for the earth.

Gachala products are inspired by the natural skin care recipes Forero’s Colombian grandmother used to mix up. “She had a wisdom when it came to plants and botanicals,” says Forero. Every cleanser, serum, moisturizer and mist is gentle yet effective using powerful organic ingredients, many directly from the Amazon rainforest.

We spoke with Gachala about her Amazonian Goddess Luxury Facial Serum, a finalist in the 2021 Clean Beauty Awards.

Why do you think Gachala Skincare Amazonian Goddess Luxury Facial Serum was chosen as a finalist?

I think it was chosen not only because its formula is beautiful and effective, but also because it offers instant hydration. Results can be seen after only one use.

Why did you create this product? What need were you fulfilling?

I created Amazonian Goddess Serum because I couldn’t find an effective, clean, potent serum that could deliver results gently. Amazonian Goddess does both. It is potent but gentle enough to nourish and protect your skin barrier.

Would you say this is your best-selling product? 

Yes, it is and it is currently sold out.

What are the ingredients of this product and what do they do?

The main ingredient is Sacha Inchi, a rare ingredient from the Amazonian jungle. Sacha Inchi seeds are considered to be the richest plant-based source of essential fatty acids and vitamins in the world.

Sacha Inchi protects against the damaging effects of sun exposure, regulates oil production, maintains elasticity, soothes and prevents inflammation, promotes softness, smoothness and suppleness, hydrates the skin without clogging the pores, helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, and is gentle enough to use on all skin types.

What does being named as a Clean Beauty Awards finalist mean to you?

It means so much! It is so rewarding to show how nature can deliver excellent results. Being recognized is just a way of continuing to do what we love.

Why is being a clean beauty brand important?

It is important because it is about time we create products that are environmentally friendly, sustainable and ethical, respecting the earth and the people who work the land.

What’s next for your brand?

We are working really hard to become a biodynamic brand and have our own farm. It is important for us as we continue delivering excellent ingredients in an ethical manner.
